New Poll: Republicans Up BIG In the Senate Battleground

Why is this man smiling? Mitch McConnell is surely thrilled because of just how well Republicans are doing in this Senate battleground poll!

Back in August, the early outlook showed Republicans capable of picking up 4 or 5 seats and apart from fluke events in Alabama, it looks like I was right. A new series of polls by Survey Monkey for Axios has the Republicans crushing it.

  • R+13 in Montana
  • R+9 in West Virginia
  • R+8 in Missouri
  • R+6 in Indiana
  • R+2 in North Dakota
  • D+3 in Wisconsin
  • D+4 in Michigan

That’s five Republican leads and two more close races in seven Democrat held seats.

The House may be at risk of a bloodbath for Republicans, but the Senate looks like a rock for the GOP this year.

Ted Cruz Is Right to Worry About This One Thing Last Night

For a year now, Ted Cruz has been ringing the bell warning about the coming Democrat wave in Texas. One key fact last night confirmed his fears.

Ted Cruz won big last night. His primary election success was convincing, as was the Republican vote advantage over the Democrats led by Senate primary winner Robert “Beto” O’Rourke. But Ted Cruz isn’t worried about himself. He’ll win. What Ted Cruz is worried about is the US House of Representatives.

Cruz said back in October that Republicans were facing a potential “bloodbath.” And the primary results last night show that’s still possible.

In the 2012 primary first round, David Dewhurst, Ted Cruz, and the rest of the Republicans combined for 1.4 million votes in that hotly contested open seat primary. However the Democrats only managed 0.5 million. That huge advantage made life easy for Texas Republicans that year.

Last night’s primary first round however was different. Ted Cruz alone got 1.3 million votes, and the Republican field combined for 1.5 million, beating out the 2012 turnout in a race that was barely contested. But the Democrats more than doubled their votes, collecting 1.0 million in total. When you can double your turnout, you’re accomplishing something.

It’s not Ted Cruz at risk of losing this year. Complacent Republicans below him on the ticket might. The party is at risk this year, and the state of Texas has many gerrymandered seats that Republicans won by 10-15 points last year. A huge increase in Democrat turnout could swamp any of those seats, and that’s why Ted Cruz is right to worry about a bloodbath.

Benjamin Netanyahu: Together the US and Israel are Changing the World

“There are those who talk about boycotting Israel, we’ll boycott them!” said Benjamin Netanyahu at AIPAC yesterday, bragging about our combined diplomatic might.

The American friendship with Israel is one of the special relationships our nation has, right up there with our ties to the United Kingdom. Many Americans look to the United Kingdom to see the origins of our language and many civil institutions. Many Americans also look to Israel to see the origins of many religious institutions.

America sticks with Israel even when few others will. Together, America and Israel make the world safer and more prosperous. We are winning. That was the message Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed in front of AIPAC on Wednesday. “When I joined the foreign service… we had about 80 or 90 countries with whom we had diplomatic relations. Now the number is 160… We are coloring the world blue!” he said:

He also described what we accomplish when we work together:

You know, in the last few years Israel’s incredible intelligence services have foiled dozens, dozens of major terrorist attacks across the world in dozens of countries. That plane could have been blown out of the sky if it weren’t for Israeli intelligence. You’re boarding planes when you leave this place. You are safer because of Israeli intelligence. It not only protects Israeli lives, it protects innocent lives around the world.

Supporting Israel is the right thing to do. It’s the moral thing to do. But it’s also a beneficial thing to do. So this is why I support Donald Trump moving the US Embassy to Israel, into the city of Jersualem, Israel’s capital.

God bless Israel, God bless America, and god bless the Israel America alliance. Thank you, thank you all.

The Latest Thing Millennials are Killing is the Republican Party, New Poll Reveals

Pew Research polled the generation gap, and besides diamond rings, casual restaurants, and napkins, it turns out millennials are doing their best to kill the Republican Party.

Millennials used to look like everyone else, according to the Pew poll. They were young, and dumb, showing a strong preference for the Democrats, but the gap was closing. What was a D+23 gap in 2006, had become a D+9 gap in 2014. But now in 2018 that’s out the window, and millennials have had it with Republicans in the Trump era:

Every other generation polled keeps it close, but millennials have completely flown the coop to the Democrats. Even if they do start to close the gap again, slowly, this is a problem for Republicans. They’re now the largest generation and as they grow up, they will vote in greater numbers.

Donald Trump appears to have set back the Republican Party for 20 years.

SAD! Trump’s Only Poll Lead Evaporates

Donald Trump took a shock lead in an approval poll this week, but he’s crashed into failure once again! How bad off is he now?

Just yesterday I pointed out that if Trump could keep his 50-48 lead in the Rasmussen tracking poll, then that would be huge news. It would represent a turning point in his approval, even if only with one pollster.

But no. I was right, it was just a fluke in the tracking poll, and is already flushing out of the system. That Trump +2 approval advantage has already fallen to a Trump -1, at 50 disapproval to 49 approval.

Combine that with the Economist/YouGov poll out today that has Trump down 53-44, and it’s clear America does not feel like we’re winning with Donald Trump.

POLL: How Does Ted Cruz Stack Up Against All 1000 Challengers?

The Dallas Morning News foolishly endorsed one of his Republican opponents, but does Ted Cruz have anything to worry about this year?

The eyes of Texas are upon the masses of people running for both the Republican and Democrat nominees for Senate, and so UT and the Texas Tribune polled those races.

I can’t resist: this race is on Cruz control. Despite having four Republican challengers, Senator Ted Cruz is up 88 points, with 91% of the Republican vote. Governor Greg Abbott is doing even better, he’s up 90 points at 95-5 over his lone competitor.

For the Democrats, Lupe Valdez and Beto O’Rourke have very strong positions as they run to be the sacrificial lambs against Abbott and Cruz respectively.

Mitt Romney is Right on School Shootings, Despite Trump Wing Attacks

The Trump Wing of the GOP is having hysterical fits about Mitt Romney. They’ll say anything to try to take him down, but he’s right about school shootings.

Mitt Romney is running for Senate in such a strong position that his announcement video didn’t even mention his name. He didn’t even feel the need to say “I’m Mitt Romney.” It’s no wonder a top establishment figure in the state attacked him.

Mitt Romney is a threat to the Trump establishment because he’s that powerful. Everyone knows who he is, and he’s not beholden to anyone to gain or keep his standing in the Utah GOP. Neither Mitch McConnell nor Donald Trump will have any ability to bully him about anything. Senator Romney would be free to take any position of conscience that he wants, even more so than Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, and Rand Paul are able to.

That makes him a threat to Trump establishment power, and so they must try to take him down. The latest shot against him is that he’s joining the gun grabbers, which is absolutely not true. His positions are perfectly in step with Republicans:

He encouraged states to consider solutions like building security, police patrols and intervention teams. He also said he would back a measure to bolster the federal database for firearms background checks.

“I think we can’t just sit and wait and hope for things to get better,” he said. “It is wrong and unacceptable for children in our schools to fear for their lives.”

What do Romney’s critics propose? That we do just sit, wait, and do nothing? When evil people seek to murder us, inaction is traditionally not the Republican preferred response.

What exactly is wrong with getting greater security into public schools, including the reversing of gun free zone policies to get armed security there? Or making sure that convicted violent criminals, who are already by law supposed to be in databases barring them from acquiring more guns, are actually put in?

We keep hearing about the failure to flag people who, under current law, were supposed to be flagged as threats. Conservatives tend to support the withholding of civil rights, including voting, from convicted felons. Why should we not also restrict second amendment rights from individuals known to be a threat?

Mitt Romney is right on this, and the attacks on him just show how worried the DC leadership is about him joining the Senate as a maverick accountable only to the voters of Utah.

Why is the British Government Intervening FOR the Islamic State in Court?

Even as terrorists who fought on behalf of the Islamic State walk free, the British government is taking a very weird stand to defend the ISIS terrorists!

Meet Aidan James. He, like many civilized people in the west, saw what the Islamic State was doing, and found it to be barbaric. But some decided that they had the ability to do more than just Tweet about it, and so they went to Syria.

These folks who went to Syria, like Aidan James did, did not do anything wrong. They merely joined with fighters that the UK and US governments were aiding, arming, and sending troops and advisers to fight along side with. They were on the same side as their own governments.

And yet, even as the UK government fails to prosecute people who traveled to Syria to fight FOR the Islamic State, they are now prosecuting men like Aidan James for joining the Kurds against ISIS.

This is injustice in action. Theresa May needs to take immediate action to get these men released. Their crime is to fight for freedom against terror and tyranny.

Illegal? Google’s New Chrome Strategy is to Bully the Entire Internet

Google’s Chrome browser is so popular they can now shape the Internet with it. But are they breaking the law?

(AP Photo/Jeff Chiu, File)

Google’s Chrome browser has about 60% desktop market share, and 50% mobile market share. That’s a very powerful market position. In itself, a powerful market position is harmless. It’s an expression of customer choice.

Powerful market positions become a problem for the public, however, when the companies that hold them begin to exploit them to make gains in other markets. In fact that’s often an illegal act in the United States. For example, in 1998 the US Government alleged that Microsoft used its dominant position in the Operating System market to try to control the web browser market.

Google is highly protective of its advertising business. Since acquiring Doubleclick, they’ve taken a huge share of the advertising market, and they’ve sought to grow that. Their primary business these days appears to be to gather information about you, and sell it to advertisers. “It makes the vast majority of its revenue through its ad network,” says CNN. That’s why their servers refuse to honor the Do Not Track browser flag, for example.

Well, now Google is taking dominance in the web browser market, and trying to use it to increase their control of the advertising market. They’re going to block ads in Chrome, but selectively. They won’t block approved ads, which will include most Google-served ads.

This is a direct swipe at ad competitors using Chrome market share. Google is trying to distract from that with misleading language:

To determine which ads not to show, we’re relying on the Better Ads Standards from the Coalition for Better Ads, an industry group dedicated to improving the experience of the ads we see on the web. It’s important to note that some sites affected by this change may also contain Google ads. To us, your experience on the web is a higher priority than the money that these annoying ads may generate—even for us.

Note that they could have said “some of these ads may be Google ads,” but they didn’t. Because they can’t. They’re giving Google ads a free pass. They’re selectively blocking specific competitors. The goal here is to drive people to move more ad units to Google, so they take over the industry.

Businesses may not be able to afford to stand up to Google on this, and could easily be bullied into compliance, lest they risk losing literally half of their ad impressions. It’s on the public, possibly operating through government, to stop them.

SHOCK New Poll Could Shake Up the 2018 GOP Outlook

It’s been bad news for Republicans for months, but this new poll could completely change how we think of the 2018 election!

Newly elected Rep. Paul Ryan of Wis., accompanied by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of Calif., points towards his family in the gallery in the House Chamber on Capitol Hill in Washington, Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015. Republicans rallied behind Ryan to elect him the House’s 54th speaker on Thursday as a splintered GOP turned to the youthful but battle-tested lawmaker to mend its self-inflicted wounds and craft a conservative message to woo voters in next year’s elections. (AP Photo/Andrew Harnik)

It’s only one poll, but it confirms a trend we’ve been seeing a while. The tax bill has done a lot to make the right comfortable with re-electing Republicans to the Congress, after months of dismal failures.

Politico is a hard left outfit, but their poll has Republicans taking the lead 39-38 in the generic ballot. Before the tax bill, Democrats had a 13 point lead in the poll average, and the poll average remains D+6.6 going into today.

An R+1 result is surely an outlier, but that an outlier with a Republican lead is even possible, suggests Republicans have gained ground over the last 2 months.
