Fire, wind danger and possible record heat for weekend

The weekend will bring some big swings in temperatures, plenty of sunshine and winds that could gust to 60 mph. It begins on Saturday with a nice day as highs will climb to the mid to upper 70s, with Lubbock at 76 degrees for the afternoon.

Warmer on Wednesday after overnight chill

While a high of 40 degrees is cold, it’s better than the last two days, but still about 15 degrees below the normal for January. It will be a sunny Wednesday and south winds will average around 10 mph.

A chill in the weekend forecast.

Another cold front overnight means another chilly day for the South Plains. Afternoon high temps will stay in the 40s for all of the region, even with sunny skies.

Bitter cold to hit area by Monday

The last few days of 2017 and the first days of 2018 will feature some of the coldest temperatures so far this winter season. It may have been 76 degree in Lubbock on Friday, but it will be only near 40 degrees on Saturday.
